Diluting Oils for Babies

Such invaluable information for loving your Little. I have this list saved to my phone for quick reference.

Because babies’ skin is more delicate than adults, it can hyper-absrob oils. So the same oil that we use as adults, is overload for a 2 month old. In addition to thoroughly reading labels before topically or aromatically giving an infant an oil, you want to check the oil-to-carrier ratios.

Ages 0-3 months: 1 drop of essential oil per 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil.

Ages 3-24 months: 2 drops of essential oil per 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil.

Ages 2-6 years: 9 drops of essential oils per 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil.

Ages 6-15 years: 14 drops of essential oils per 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil.

Ages 15+ years: 22 drops of essential oils per 2 Tbsp. of carrier oil.

A carrier oil is exactly what it sounds like – an oil that works as a carrier (messenger) for the essential oil. Another way to think about it is a carrier oil dilutes the oil. In this cue, dilution is good. Remember, a little goes a long way. Common carrier oils are Fractionated Coconut Oil and Grape Seed Oil.

Once you have the proper ration of oil-to-carrier, you can decide the best way for your family to store it. Some prefer a roller ball, like these. I personally have six of these in my diaper bag for various things. Or you can store it in a Small Glass Container and use as a salve. Either way works; just find what works for you!
